Media Consent Guidelines

From our Multimedia site:  “Several ECU technologies allow video and audio recording of class lectures, guest speakers, students and patients through still portraits, images, name, likeness or voice (virtual reality project, for example), as part of, or in conjunction with, an ECU class, project or promotional opportunity.”

The ECU Media Consent Release Guidelines clarify when written prior permission is required and other considerations. ECU needs to be able to demonstrate that it has permission from participants to include them in electronic media.

A signed Media Release form is required when:

• Recording a lecture or class
• Recording guest lecturers, interview candidates or others
• Recording PK-12 students in conjunction with a class project (both ECU students conducting the project and the parents of each student in the recording must have a media release form on file)

Making Hidden Videos Visible to Students

Many of you have requested that your past course recordings be “hidden” from your students until you are ready to release them.

Here are some handy instructions to use when you are ready to release the recordings.

If you would prefer for me to release them, feel free to send me an email when you are ready for the recording to be released and I will take care of it for you.

Duplicate or Extend Screens in Presenter Mode

There have been many instances in the past few weeks where faculty have had issues with their main presentation screen not duplicating or extending to the big projector in our classrooms.

Double click on the desktop icons if you are wanting to either “Duplicate or Extend” your screens.  When in presenter mode within Powerpoint, you will want to choose extend monitor.

• Duplicate: PC and projector will show the same things on all the screens.
• Extend: If you extend, then you can use each monitor individually and open different apps and windows.

Using Canvas Tools to Take Attendance

Roll Call Attendance

The Attendance (Roll Call) tool is an external app (LTI) used for taking attendance in Canvas courses. The Attendance tool can be used for online or face-to-face courses. With the Attendance tool, instructors can keep track of course attendance by taking roll electronically.

Qwickly

The Qwickly Attendance tool enables faculty to take attendance that is automatically graded in the Canvas Grade book. Instructors can take attendance using an attendance list on screen or allow students to check in on their own browser.

Turning Point

TurningPoint is an engagement and assessment solution that supports student interaction and participation in real-time using a clicker or mobile device.
