Current Studies

We are actively recruiting for the following studies. If you think you may qualify to participate in one of the below studies, please email Dr. Jamie Perry at perryja@ecu.edu for more information.

MRI Analysis of Cleft Palate Anatomy

If  your child has a cleft lip and/or palate, they may qualify to participate in this imaging study. This study seeks to analyze the anatomy and growth of children born with cleft lip and/or palate using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).

Assessment of Therapy Techniques for Speech Sound Disorders Associated with Cleft Palate

If your child has a cleft palate or submucous cleft palate, they may qualify for this study. We are actively recruiting children to participate in speech therapy with a targeted focus on the elimination of compensatory articulation errors. These errors frequently arise due to maladaptive motor learning secondary to cleft palate. This study seeks to evaluate a motor based therapy approach in the treatment of these speech sound disorders.

Therapy Strategies for Children with Non-Cleft VPI

If your child has a resonance disorder  or speech sound disorder and no history of cleft palate, you may qualify for this study. Frequently, children with a history of conductive hearing loss, frequent ear infections, or following an adenoidectomy are identified with resonance and/or articulation errors that require intensive speech therapy. This study seeks to analyze a high intensity motor based speech therapy approach targeting the remediation of these articulation errors.
