CAHS Adds 2 New Faculty Members
Dr. Erzsebet Szatmari (Physical Therapy)
Dr. Szatmari received her PhD in Cell Biology from Babes-Bolyai University, Cluj, Romania and Biological Research Center, Szeged, Hungary then joined research labs at the Kentucky Spinal Cord Injury Research Center, Duke University Medical Center, and Max Planck Florida Institute for Neuroscience before joining the Department of Physical Therapy in Fall 2018. Using
transgenic mouse models of AD, Dr. Szatmari applies state of the art molecular screening, imaging, behavioral and biochemical techniques to study signaling pathways of synaptic dysfunction in vivo. Her research interests are in the signaling mechanisms that mediate synaptic dysfunction in neurodegenerative disorders. Her research area focuses on identifying neuronal signaling pathways that inhibit learning and memory formation in health and disease.
Dr. Lauren Sastre (Nutrition Science)
Dr. Sastre completed her PhD in Nutrition Science at the University of North Carolina, Greensboro. Prior to joining the faculty in the Department of Nutrition Science at ECU, Dr. Sastre was an assistant professor at Winthrop University. Her research interests include health disparities, underserved populations, chronic disease prevention and management, preventative care, multidisciplinary care, health care policy, and development of evidence, community- based nutrition and health education and promotion programming and resources.
