Julia Stoker
Graduate Research Assistant
Education Background: Julia earned a Bachelor of Science and Arts in Biology with a minor in Music at The University of Texas at Austin. She graduated with a Doctor of Physical Therapy from East Carolina University in May 2022.
Primary Lab Responsibilities: Julia was a graduate research assistant for the I-C-FUN study in children with Cerebral Palsy. Her responsibilities included lab setup and organization, subject recruitment, protocol development and implementation, new lab member training, data collection and processing, statistical analysis, and scholarly writing. Julia is trained in remote limb ischemic conditioning, stability platform testing, power training, treadmill training, Assisting Hand Assessment, bi-manual cup stacking task, and use of wrist accelerometers.
Fun Fact: Although Julia is passionate about physical therapy, she also loves music! She took piano lessons as a child, played flute in the school band, sang in choir, took voice lessons, and has also taught herself to play a little bit of ukulele.
Christina Moore
Graduate Research Assistant
Education Background: Christina graduated from Clemson University in December of 2017 with a BS in Health Science and with a Doctor of Physical Therapy from East Carolina University (ECU) in May 2021.
Primary Lab Responsibilities: Christina was responsible for initial lab set up, organization, and management, which included ordering new equipment. She was also responsible for learning and assisting with implementing research protocol and conducting literature searches. As the research progressed, she assisted in research participant recruitment, data collection, organization and processing, and statistical analysis.
Fun Facts: Christina has a 2-year-old Golden Retriever named Cali, ran the Disney World Marathon in 2018, and has traveled to Sweden for 2 international soccer tournaments. She hopes to be a pediatric PT after she graduates.
Sarah Sedaghat
Graduate Research Assistant
Education Background: Sarah earned her bachelor’s degree at Guilford College with a double major in Exercise Science and Health Science in 2018. She graduated with a DPT degree from ECU in May 2021.
Primary Lab Responsibilities: Sarah’s responsibilities included research training, helping in setting up the research lab, lab organization and management, learning the research study protocols/techniques, research participants’ recruitment, helping in data collection, data organization, data processing, literature search, and statistical analysis.
Fun Fact: She loves outdoor adventures.
Hannah Joyce
Undergraduate Research Assistant
Education Background: Hannah received a BS in Exercise Physiology with a concentration in exercise as medicine from East Carolina University. She is currently pursuing a Doctor of Physical Therapy.
Primary Lab Responsibilities: Hannah is trained in Remote Limb Ischemic Conditioning (RLIC) and stability platform protocol. Her responsibilities include setting up a research laboratory, lab organization and management, learning research protocols, data collection, data organization, and data processing.
Fun fact: I love traveling so I spent Christmas break traveling to six different states!
Tommy Reyes
Undergraduate Research Assistant
Education Background: Tommy is an Exercise Physiology major with a concentration in exercise as medicine. He spent his first two years at Central Piedmont Community College in Charlotte, North Carolina before transferring to East Carolina University. He graduated in December of 2020.
Primary Lab Responsibilities: Tommy is trained in Remote Limb Ischemic Conditioning (RLIC), stability platform protocol, assisting hand assessment, bi-manual cup stacking, power training, treadmill training, and GAITRite gait analysis technology. His responsibilities included setting up a research laboratory, lab organization and management, learning research protocols, data collection, data organization, and data processing.
Fun Fact: Tommy loves music & music festivals and has seen over 40 different live artists.
Alexa Burnett
Undergraduate Research Assistant
Education Background: Alexa is an Exercise Physiology major with a concentration in exercise as medicine here at East Carolina University. Alexa graduated in December 2020 and is currently pursuing a Doctor of Physical Therapy at ECU.

Tyler Phinizy
Undergraduate Research Assistant
Education Background: Tyler graduated with an Exercise Physiology major in the Honors College at East Carolina University. He is currently pursuing a Doctor of Physical Therapy degree at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Fun Fact: Tyler loves music and can play guitar, trumpet, and banjo.
Brittany Trotter
Graduate Research Assistant
Education Background: Brittany earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology with minors in Sports Science and Biological Sciences from North Carolina State University. She is currently working on her MS in Kinesiology and PhD in Bioenergetics and Exercise Science, both with concentrations in Biomechanics and Motor Control.
Primary Lab Responsibilities: Brittany worked as a graduate research assistant for the Co-Act and Learn study in the PeARL lab. Her responsibilities included lab setup and organization, new lab member training, data collection and processing, statistical analysis, and scholarly writing.
Fun fact: Outside of the lab, Brittany loves to practice yoga and spend time walking or hiking with her dog, JoJo!
Brody Moton
Undergraduate Research Assistant
Education background: I earned a Bachelor’s in Exercise Physiology with a minor in Composite Natural Sciences at East Carolina University. I am now currently a DPT student at East Carolina University.
Lab Responsibilities: When working in the PeARL lab, I helped progress participants through training sessions involving strength, speed, balance, and overall gait ability.
Fun fact: While I was in undergraduate studies at East Carolina, I was also a tour guide, I know all of the interesting stats, stories, and even got to dress up as the mascot for admission events!
Kyle Tillett
Undergraduate Research Assistant
Educational Background: Kyle earned a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Physiology with a concentration in exercise as medicine. He graduated in December of 2021 and hopes to attend an accredited Doctor of Physical Therapy program in North Carolina.

His responsibilities included setting up a research laboratory, lab organization and management, learning and implementing research protocols, data collection, data organization, and data processing.
Fun Fact: Kyle enjoys the outdoors and spent many summers surfing and spearfishing at his local beach.
Matt Smith
Undergraduate Research Assistant
Education Background: Matt graduated from East Carolina University in December of 2021 with a BS in Exercise Physiology and a concentration in exercise as medicine. After graduation, Matt hopes to be admitted into an accredited Doctorate of Physical Therapy program in North Carolina and maintain ties with his Alma mater.
Primary Lab Responsibilities: Matt is trained in Remote Limb Ischemic Conditioning (RLIC), stability platform protocol, HUMAC NORM isokinetic testing, GAITRite gait analysis technology, bi-manual cup stacking, power training, treadmill training, and electroencephalogram (EEG). His primary responsibilities included setting up, running, and troubleshooting issues for the GAITRite gait analysis and stability platform protocols. Other responsibilities included setting up the research laboratory, lab organization and management, learning additional research protocols, data collection, data organization, and data processing.
Fun Fact: Matt is a certified Personal Trainer through ACSM. Matt is also a United States and NCAA soccer official. He has officiated for various Colleges/Universities across NC, the USL 1 & 2 Divisions, 2021 NCHSAA 3A Mens State Championship, and traveled to Florida, Alabama, and Tennesse to represent NC in several national tournaments.
Josh Simmons
Undergraduate Research Assistant
Education Background: Josh graduated from East Carolina University with an exercise physiology degree. After graduation, Josh plans on working in cardiac rehab and continue applying to PT school.

Franky Reppy
Undergraduate Research Assistant
Education Background: Frankie is an Exercise Physiologist major here at East Carolina University. He is expected to graduate in May 2022. Upon graduation, Frankie will attend Martin Community College to pursue a Physical Therapist Assistant degree with the aspirations to pursue a Doctor of Physical Therapy degree.

Fun Fact: Frankie is passionate about NASCAR and hasn’t missed a televised race in six years! He has also attended twenty NASCAR races in person.
Hannah Powell

Educational Background: Hannah is an Exercise Physiology major and is minoring in psychology and disability studies here at East Carolina University. Hannah is expected to graduate in December 2022. Upon graduation, Hannah plans on attending an accredited Doctor of Physical Therapy Program in North Carolina.

Nia Watkins
Undergraduate Research Assistant
Education Background: Nia is an Exercise Physiology major with a concentration in exercise as medicine with a minor in psychology. Nia will graduate in December of 2022 with hopes of being admitted to an accredited Doctor of Physical Therapy program in North Carolina.

Fun Fact: Nia has a Staffordshire terrier mix puppy and loves to take her on long walks around Greenville and to the off-leash dog park. Nia also loves to travel and has been on six cruises.
