Language, Memory, and Brain Lab

About

Research in the Language, Memory, and Brain lab is focused on the real-time processes that enable the comprehension and production of words and sentences. We primarily investigate these issues in healthy adults and in adults with acquired neurogenic disorders, particularly those affecting the brain regions supporting language or memory (including aphasia, Alzheimer’s disease, and Parkinson’s disease).

The primary goal of our research is to gain a clearer understanding of how language and memory are intertwined in healthy language and how they may or may not be impacted in neurogenic disorders. We investigate these issues using a variety of methods, including the monitoring of eye-movements using eye-tracking, and recording electrical activity from the brain during language production and comprehension, with EEG/ERP techniques. As well, we investigate how to capitalize on language and memory functions to promote effective language recovery and better treatment outcomes.
