Congratulations to Dr. Wyatt Bunner

Sep 8, 2023

Congratulations to Dr. Wyatt Bunner who successfully defended his dissertation “Understanding the role of RAB10 in neuronal resilience”. He completed his doctoral program under the direction of Dr. Erzsebet Szatmari in the movement sciences & disorders concentration. Dr. Bunner has accepted a postdoctoral fellowship with Dr. Gunner Poplawski’s in the Center for Immunotherapy and ImmunoOncology at the Clevelands Clinic’s Lerner Research Institute. Dr. Bunner’s initial focus will be on researching possible therapeutic interventions for glioblastoma propagation. The theme of Dr. Bunner’s new lab is the development of regenerative and diagnostic strategies for neurodegenerative diseases.”

Congratulations to Taylor Snodgrass!!

Sep 8, 2023

Taylor Snodgrass, PhD student in Communication Sciences and Disorders concentration, working under the direction of Dr. Jamie Perry has been awarded an NIH/NIDCR F31 Predoctoral Fellowship. The title of her grant is: Evaluating Velopharyngeal Function During Phonation in Children Utilizing Static MRI. For this award she will seek to describe the typical movement of the velopharynx in children without a history of cleft palate or hypernasal speech, as this could be used for comparison to children with hypernasal speech and can benefit surgical planning for children with hypernasal speech.

Kudos to Dr. Zhou!

Nov 29, 2021

Dr. Ning Zhou, associate professor in the Communication Sciences and Disorders Department, was recently awarded a grant for her project “Clinical Implications of Sensitivity to Pulse Phase Duration in Cochlear Implants” via the William Demant Foundation. Her project aims to explore pulse phase duration sensitivity as a marker of neural health in individuals with cochlear implants (CI). This work will help to characterize neural health along the electrode array, may explain differences in CI outcomes, and may help to optimize CI signal processing.

Congratulations to Dr. Lin!

Nov 29, 2021

Dr. James Lin, assistant professor in the Physical Therapy Department, will serve as a co-investigator on a new NIH R21 award.

The project “Characterizing Brain Activation and Postural Response During Concurrent Cognitive Tasks in the Presence of Optic Flow Stimulation: A Functional Near-Infrared Spectroscopy Study” (PI: Dr. Brian Sylcott – College of Engineering & Technology) aims to understand the patterns of brain activation and postural responses during varying cognitive tasks.

Congratulations Dr. Briley!

Aug 13, 2019

Congratulations to Dr. Patrick Briley, a recent graduate from the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders! Dr. Briley, a PhD graduate under the mentorship of Dr. Charles Ellis Jr., was awarded a Student Research Travel Award (SRTA) to attend the annual American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) Convention.

Dr. Briley is the first author on Relative Contributions to the OASES’ Impact Score, the highest-rated, student-authored paper in its Convention topic area. The purpose of the STRA is to highlight the research activities of students and encourage careers in science and research. As an award recipient, Dr. Briley will receive a stipend and complimentary Convection registration.

Way to go, Dr. Briley!
