Congratulations to Dr. Sharma!
Dr. Saryu Sharma, Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders, successfully defended her dissertation, “Discourse Processing in Neurologically Healthy Adults: A Cross-Modal Eye-Tracking Study” under the direction of Dr. Heather Harris Wright.
Her research primarily focuses on understanding the cognitive-linguistic changes that occur as a result of aging and neurological damage. More specifically, she uses eye-tracking technology to determine how deficits in language and cognition abilities such as working memory interact with discourse processing in individuals with acquired brain injury including adults with aphasia. Her research also investigates discourse production abilities in neurologically impaired populations.
Dr. Sharma will be joining Idaho State University as an Assistant Professor in the Fall. Her future work will contribute to identifying and developing discourse assessment measures for this population in research and clinical settings.
